Our actions

> At a time when many environmental NGOs are investing heavily in communication and lobbying, we have chosen to commit our efforts to action, with a primary concern of giving a voice to those who are struggling to be heard. From the very beginning of our existence, we have sought out people and projects that spark our enthusiasm.

> It’s not easy to operate in this region of Africa, which is why we decided to base our efforts in the western Maï-Ndombe Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo ─ far removed from the extremely violent troubles that dominate the news in the east of the country. And it’s also in this region that we find two closely related associations working on two different facets of the same conservation objective :

  • M’bou Mon Tour is an initiative created by Jean-Christophe BOKIKA NGAWOLO who comes from a forest community of several villages where the local villagers are working to protect their endemic fauna and flora ;
  • BonoboEco an association founded by Victor NARAT to support his research on the bonobos living in this same forest community.

The M’bou Mon Tour Association

> M'bou Mon Tour is a Congolese NGO bringing together a group of local communities that are working to protect the forests and savannahs that are home to bonobos and small primates and carry out nature-friendly development activities. Their ultimate goal is to reduce malnutrition and poverty and to increase knowledge and understanding by building on the region’s rich and unique local heritage.

The Bonobo Eco Association

> Bonobo ECO is a non-profit organisation created in 2008 under the 1901 French Law of Association that focuses on the research and conservation of bonobos (Pan paniscus) in the wild. The association strongly believes that the conservation of bonobos can only be achieved in close partnership with the human populations that live alongside these primates, which is why it has joined forces with M'bou-Mon Tour and its now 20-year-old community-based bonobo conservation project.
